Most Canadians are concerned about key aspects of today's health care.
While acknowledging the importance of conventional medicine in the assessment and treatment of illness, surveys show that more and more Canadians are concerned abut its limitations, especially when long term or maintenance care is necessary. Their main concerns include:
- Dependence on toxic and expensive drugs
- Side effects of medication, often having to add more medication to control side effects.
- Long waiting lists for treatment
- Choosing invasive conventional procedures
- Excluding alternative approaches as no-scientific and non-regulated.
- Limited ability to cure, sometimes just managing symptoms and prolonging the agony
- Little or no funding for preventative medicine
- Rigid expert attitude, dismissing patient's heritage of spiritual and natural solutions
- Patients have no say or control over major health care decisions
- Not sufficient access to care in case of chronic problems
- No coverage for complementary and alternative therapies, unless reaching very critical stage or illness (e.g. cancer)
Concerned Canadians seek Alternative Solutions even if that involves high out-of-pocket costs.
